I’ve been obsessing a bit today over “Frightened” by the Fall. Maybe it’s the riced cauliflower, broccoli florets and cheese sauce. Maybe it’s the full moon. Maybe it’s the margaritas #margaritafriday.

Maybe it’s because “time moves slow when you count it.”

Mark Edward Smith (5 March 1957 – 24 January 2018) was an English singer and songwriter, who was the lead singer, lyricist and only constant member of the post-punk group the Fall. Smith formed the band after attending the June 1976 Sex Pistols gig in Manchester[1] and was its leader until his death. During their 42-year existence, the Fall's line-up included some 60 musicians with whom Smith released 32 studio albums and numerous singles and EPs.[A][2] —Wiki

So it will not be them; it will be their cyborgs. Maybe some form of biomorphic, bionic AI. (Biological bodies as we understand them are not fit for space travel.) Or, if it is them, it will be because of a wormhole. A portal will open and they will fill the sky as our timelines collide.

“WTF” is a long poem that I began writing in the spring of 2008, and finished late spring 2009. It is modeled after Ted Berrigan and Anne Waldman's collaborative poem, "Memorial Day."

“WTF” fell short of its intended scope primarily because I had to take a six month hiatus halfway through it for medical reasons. At one point, finishing the poem seemed out of the question.

I will note that I was inspired and excited about the undertaking of this project, but I do feel that circumstances definitely affected and altered the final third of the poem.

Nonetheless, I believe it is one of my most significant writings.

The poem was finally performed at a house party that Maggie and Ben Stritz Calnin hosted specifically for the reading of the poem. The performance involved costume props and a slide show, facilitated by Angela Vasquez-Giroux (who unknownly collaborated on the poem).

I will always be grateful to Boog who designed, printed and provided copies of the poem (the original cover is above) for the party, which was a hell of a lot of fun.

“WTF” was originally dedicated to the following: for Sheila, Jackie, Zach...Doug Czinder...Angela...especially for Bill Butler. All of these individuals helped me get through a tough time, which in turn helped me finish the poem.

Hanging with Blue Owl Coffee /  by Tim Lane

This memory popped up on FB today. A year ago, I hung paintings from my Selfie Series at Blue Owl Coffee in REO Town. They looked great on that brick wall! There are ways to hang my unframed roofing paper paintings that look really cool (using wall-friendly velcro strips or binder clips).

I always check out the art when I visit a coffee shop! You can view The Selfie Series in the galleries. A few of these paintings are available in the Art for Sale section.

This playlist continues to grow as Pete and I try to reach 1000 songs. Most recently, we’ve added some Soft Cell, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Prefab Sprout, a few more B 52s, a couple of songs by Modern English and a tune by Pubic Image Limited.
